Animal Crossings – New Horizons

The text says:

“As coulrophobia (the fear of clowns) is effectively non-existent in Japan, the development team was surprised to receive negative feedback on Lola Pop’s concept art from Nintendo of America, stating that some of the employees found her appearance to be a little scary. This amused Kosuke Yabuki, who felt that he “learned a weakness of Americans” after the exchange.”

This is pure gold. Pure, lusciuos gold. And… he ain’t wrong. But *I* think she’s adorable!

“Jaws on the Water” on Lake Travis, Texas

I’ve heard of this before and it is STILL one of the coolest things ever. Happening on Lake Travis in Texas and going strong for the fifth year in the row, movie goers can watch one of most LEGENDARY movies in cinema history – JAWS! – while floating and bobbing on the lake, dangling their toes and other body parts in the dark, impenetrable water. OOOOOOH. And the other lakeside attractions are available during the movie, too!

Do I know anyone in Lake Travis, Texas? Have you gone? I’d love to hear about it!

I Finally Saw The New “It….”

Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise from “It”

So, after all this time, 4 months after release, I finally managed to watch the movie adaptation of Stephen King’s epic horror novel, “It.” Now, the last well known adaption was ACTUALLY not a movie, it was a mini series and it was quite excellent. I adore Tim Curry to begin with and his Pennywise has always been an epic force, especially knowing that he was allergic to the make up and terrified of clowns himself (according to the internet).

First, I think that Bill Skarsgård was an amazing choice for Pennywise – he suited the role fantastically and his facial control and expressiveness was right up there with Tim Curry’s (which I say reluctantly). I felt that it really did him a disservice for the make up applied to be SO over-the-top and explicitly menacing and the significant amount of CGI enhancement that was applied. The make up on our “original” Pennywise was a stroke of genius because Tim Curry could be a happy, harmless clown and then a second later, be scary and menacing. Our new Pennywise could never pass as harmless and happy.

The kids were amazing. I thought they were absolutely fantastic and I especially adored Beverly. They were awkward and sincere and they really sold the fear, weirdness, and earnestness of the Losers’ Club.

The rest of the acting was… disappointing. Especially memorable disappointments were Beverly’s father, who I’m sure was supposed to be menacing, over bearing, and sexually creeptastic, but came off as absent, hollow, and… leaden.

The same was true of Eddie’s mother. I DO get the sense, though, that it was not the actors – it feels like this was an intentional direction they chose to go in.

The story, of course, was entirely different, but that wasn’t surprising. This one promised to be a lot closer to the original book and we all knew the miniseries deviated greatly. I actually thought the story line and writing was really enjoyable. My biggest complaints were the new-style, CGI effects that just seemed over-bearing and jarring. I’m not sure they’re as apparent to everyone else, so it might just be me.

I’m hoping that with a little more distance I’ll grow to like it more and I really am looking forward to seeing Chapter Two!

I am SO relieved to have enjoyed Bill Skarsgård’s performance so much and I really hope they capitalize on it more in the next one!

I Haven’t Seen ‘It’ Yet and Countdown to Halloween

The shame… the agony… the complete lack of horror!!!! It is October and I STILL haven’t seen the remake of Stephen King’s “It” yet! I know, I know – and here I am, building my clown empire, and I am so very remiss in this very epic and monumental thing!

In all fairness… I had a lot going on. I had to run an event at the beginning of September, which was happening opening weekend, in Seattle, which required a more than 24 hour drive… which I got fired from after driving half way there. THEN I came back home, my students had a performance, and then I had to get ready to move and then actually do the moving thing (we moved from Arizona to California – we’re back HOME!) and now I am FINALLY semi settled down. So. Excellent! AND a friend of mine just posted that she saw “It” at the theater and had the place to herself. So, that is completely perfect for me!

So, I am planning to see it this week. Probably at a matinee, because it seems that late night showings aren’t really a thing around here and I don’t like to see movies with other human beings, so matinee it is. I’m SUPER excited to see it. My bro, another avid horror fan, said I HAVE to see it in the theater, and he usually doesn’t exaggerate those things. So, I’m gonna get on it, for sure!

I know you’ve been waiting on pins and needles for my opinion, and while pins and needles ARE a ton of fun, enough is enough. Time is growing short, so stay tuned!

Also, I’m reading you bedtime stories as part of my “Countdown to Halloween” – you can check out the playlist below. Enjoy!

The Famous Clown Hotel is For Sale!

You guys, you guys, you guys!

My birthday is next month and I know what I want and it’s SUPER CHEAP, okay!

The famous Haunted Clown Hotel in Nevada is for sale for ONLY $900,000! I am SOOOO excited! THANKFULLY a stipulation of the sale is that it must be preserved as the historical treasure that it is.

Something I learned that I think I never realized is that the hotel overlooks a neighboring cemetery where gold rushers who died of a mysterious plague were buried. The cemetery is NOT part of the property and is not part of the sale – but it IS part of the view!

So, what do y’all think!??!!?!

Over-Analysis of “IT” Trailer and Rumors!

Hahahha – okay, so I have a soft, gooey, drippy place in my heart for obsessive people who go overboard on analysis and observation – especially when it comes to delightfully nerdy things, like the upcoming “IT” remake!

Thanks to this video from Zac Morris on CZsWorld on YouTube (who, apparently, does this kind of thing), I learned about a TON of new things about the upcoming “IT” movie and things about the book that I never knew because I haven’t read it… and now I suppose I should go do that.

That being said… SPOILERS!

Check the video out! I LOVED it! R rating? Fuck yeah!

The OFFICIAL Trailer for “IT” is Here!

You guys… “IT” is here! The OFFICIAL trailer for the remake of Stephen King’s “IT” has been released! And it looks VERY, VERY amazing!

I’m not thrilled about all the remakes, but I’m pretty darned excited about this one! Who else?

The Extended Trailer for “IT” is Here!

You know here in ClownTown we LOVE Pennywise the Clown. We were NOT happy to hear about the remake, but we’re trying to be open-minded. After all, Stephen King DID say he’s MUCH happier with the remake than the original movie – although it lacks Tim Curry, so I’m not sure how that is possible. But Stephen King is the original author and the trailer DOES look pretty good! Check it out!
